Where’s Your Muzzle Pointed at when at the Range?

After a reload, where is your muzzle pointed? Have you made modifications to your firearm? Have you ever had an accidental discharge?

There is a video that is being recirculated around the Internet on a training session at the range. When I saw this video, I never thought that something like this would happen. It’s rare, but it did happen. Kudos to the gent who did a fabulous job at following the firearm safety rules when his firearm discharged.

I am always cognoscente of my environment when my hand is on a firearm and the safety rules are running through my mind. To be honest, I am scared to death of an accidental discharge. The thought of how far the bullet would travel, how much damage it would do, if it would hit someone, the loud noise along with the damaging my hearing and the police arriving. This is the stuff that always goes through my mind. So I am extra careful with any firearm (loaded or not).

So when your practicing at the range, make sure your muzzle is pointed down range instead of at others or anything that you are not willing to destroy. As you can see in the video, after reloading and pulling back on the slide, the firearm discharged. And his finger was not on the trigger. Why the accidental discharge? It could be a defective firearm or it may have been modified and causing the misfire. So following the firearm safety rules has once again proven itself to be successful.
